Introduction

In effort to promote trade within the region; the EABC in partnership with the EAC UNIDO-NORAD Programme on Trade Capacity Building in Agro-industry has established this website to increase the understanding in the region of the SPS issues that impact on trade in the region.

This comes with realization that more than 80% of East Africans are engaged in agriculture sector and therefore to increase their participation in the regional trade there is need to address the trade constraints that have potential to hinder their access to international and regional market.

 
What is SPS?

SPS stands for “Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary” where Sanitary relates to conditions that are conducive to human and animal health and plant health.
In the frame work of SPS; animal include fish and other aquatic fauna as well as wild fauna.
Plants also include forest and wild flora. SPS therefore relates to issues, practices, measures that affect the health of Humans, Animals and plants

 
What Are SPS Issues

SPS stands for Sanitary “Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary” where sanitary relates to issues, practices, measures that are conducive to health usually in reference to a clean environment as related to human and animal health.
Phyto Sanitary relates to issues, practices, measures that are conducive to health usually relating to plant health.
