EABC Regional Conference on Global Financial Crisis: Summary Recommendations

On March 4, 2009, the East African Business Council (EABC) held a Regional Conference on the Global Financial Crisis; focusing on the challenges and the opportunities.

The Conference brought together 76 participants, including 2 Ministers from the host country; Secretary General of EAC; 3 Central Bank Governors (Tanzania, Kenya & Uganda); Chief Executives of leading EAC businesses, academicians, public policy makers and the media. The Conference was held at the East African Hotel in Arusha, Tanzania.

As the people of the EAC, governments and businesses are all facing common challenges arising from this crisis; it was resolved that the EAC Partner States should immediately form a Joint Crisis Management Strategy Team at the EAC leadership level, to ensure that the region comes up with harmonised solutions which will not distort the EAC integration process.

This team should have both private & public sector players; with a view to coordinating the implementation of the following recommendations that were arrived at after various presentations and plenary discussions
