EABC APPOINTS NEW CHAIRMAN DURING THE 1ST EXTRA-ORDINARY AGM HELD IN DAR ES SALAAM 5TH DECEMBER 2016
Mr. Audace Ndayizeye elected as Chairman of EABC
The East African Business Council, during the 1st Extra-Ordinary Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 5th December 2016 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, elected Mr. Audace Ndayizeye(pictured) as Chairman of the Executive Committee Member(ECM) for the period 2016/2017. His appointment follows the resignation of Mr. Econie Nijimbere who had been elected as Chairman in May 2016 but resigned for personal reasons. Consequently, Burundi Federal Chamber nominated Mr. Audace Ndayizeye replace him as a member of the EABC Executive Committee and to be elected by the EABC Annual General Meeting (AGM) as Chairman.
Mr. Audace Ndayizeye is the president of the Burundi Federal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the apex body for private sector in Burundi founded in 1980. The chamber represents the interests of the private sector in dialogue with government on matters of interest to business.
In his acceptance speech, EABC Chairman, Mr. Ndayizeye appreciated the efforts and energy invested by former chairs and the current Executive Committee team and promised to lead the EABC with utmost transparency and boldness. He lauded that in his tenure together with the current Executive Committee team, will endeavor to finalize and implement the new East African Business Council Strategic Plan 2017/2022, Proactively advocate on issues outlined in our EABC Policy Advocacy Agenda document that aims at addressing key sectoral and cross cutting trade policy challenges as well as highlighting gaps and discrepancies in the implementation of the East African Community Customs Union and Common Market Protocols, which are hindering East Africans from enjoying advantages offered by East African Community Integration. Furthermore, he mentioned to oversee key areas including EABC institution strengthening, Enhancing Membership Services and EABC Visibly, Strengthening Partnership and creating awareness of the EABC Code of Conduct.
EABC Chairman, Mr. Ndayizeye further appreciated efforts by acting chair Mr. Felix Mosha in steering the work done in the year 2016 together with the Executive Committee. Mr. Ndayizeye reiterated his commitment and passion to work with colleagues, Executive Committee members and requested full support from EABC Members, Secretariat, EABC National Focal Points, as well as the East African Community Secretariat and Development Partners collaborate hand in hand with EABC in order to fulfill the EABC mandate and role of being the dynamic voice of the private sector in the East African.
